Description
The challenges of today's chaotic and competitive business environment call for project management. Cross-functional teams of borrowed resources are charged with getting the job done-on time, within budget, while meeting customer needs. An employee who excels at their specialty, but who has little project management experience, usually leads the team. These newly "designated" project managers (leaders) need practical training on the essentials of project management.
This session takes the mystery out of how to organize and plan projects, meet deadlines, and keep the budget under control. You'll benefit by saving time and money through improved plans, schedules, and communications. Through presentations, small group discussions, and hands-on activities, you will learn:
* How to recognize when to use project management techniques
* How to develop your role as a project manager and strengthen business
relationships
* How five unspoken customer issues affect your project
* How to develop a work break down (WBS) structure
* The importance and use of Gantt and PERT charts
* How to manage project resources
* How to implement five essential planning strategies
* How to use the critical path method (CPM) to manage projects
* Strategies for using microcomputer software for projects
The essentials of project management will be covered so participants can apply them to projects diverse as building a house, planning a convention, writing a marketing plan, moving an office, or the rolling out of a new product.
